The Pommie Solar Pool Heater.

I’ve simply returned from a visit to Western Australia, to see my sister and brother-in-law.

I had a good time.

Now winter is coming in WA…. temperatures may plummet to 20°C!!

My brother-in-law, Karl, is frightened in regards to the temperature of his pool. It is unheated.

“What you want there, Karl, is a photo voltaic panel.”

“Yeah, however I have been quoted $5000….”

…. ouch…. absolutely we are able to do higher than that!

Electronic Repairing So, the night got here, a couple of concepts mooted over quite a lot of chilly beers….

The thought is to get some “reticulation” (or irrigation pipe to the remainder of us), which is a reasonable black PVC pipe. I used to be involved about it is longevity when uncovered to daylight, however there’s lengths of it uncovered within the backyard already, and it is displaying no indicators of misery after quite a lot of years.  We’ll get lengths of it, and stick it on the storage roof. The water might be pumped by the prevailing pool filter pump, which runs for six hours a day to maintain the water conditioned.

Electronic Repairing The next day, a visit is made to the reticulation store, and 25m of 25mm pipe is bought as a take a look at to see if the pump has sufficient head to get the water to the roof of the storage. After a little bit of faffing about, the pipe is linked to the unused water characteristic outlet, and water is sprayed in every single place, fortunately a few of it displaying we have now loads of head to get to the storage roof. A celebration is held via fast consumption of a chilly beer …..

So, some extra pipe and some fittings are bought. A small trench is dug in document time by Karl, and a few pipes buried to take the water to the roof, and as much as the storage roof and again….

The pump timer is reset to run the pump from 9AM when the solar hits the roof, to 3PM when it strikes off the roof.

After testing the water temperature, it seems to be gaining about 2°C at round 10 litres per minute. Which is not unhealthy!

Electronic Repairing So we have now a few cool beers, and a celebratory fishing journey….

So this is my 2016 Vacation video…..
